PCC Sylvania HT Building West Side Renovation

The project scope included repurposing an existing natatorium (swimming pool) space to create two floors of flexible new Exercise Science, Fitness, and Health Professions classrooms and labs. To help unite the new spaces and connect them to the existing building and campus, a new skylit two-story gathering and circulation space was created along the north side of the former natatorium. This brings daylight into the heart of the program areas and provides a new accessible connection linking interior and exterior spaces on both levels.

Our design worked to maintain and highlight the positive qualities of the building’s original 1970 concrete structure, including preserving portions of a wonderful, abstract, blue and yellow mural that was painted above the previous bleachers that overhung and overlooked the former pools.
