OSU Gilbert Hall Renovations

This project centered on the renovation and renewal of two large tiered classrooms and one teaching laboratory within Oregon State University’s historic Gilbert Hall and later addition.  The 10,200 sf of work included the careful renovation of spaces with challenging existing conditions to make significant accessibility improvements, upgrade safety, and maximize the impact of a limited scope to transform the spaces to serve 21st century needs.

Due to the original configuration of the interior spaces, the project was a challenging three-dimensional puzzle contained within an historic brick masonry enclosure. The careful integration of the upgrades and new systems dramatically improved the accessibility, function and safety of these important teaching and learning spaces.

The classroom renovations included upgrades to improve access and safety while integrating current technology to support a variety of pedagogies. The work included a complete reconfiguration of classroom seating, incorporating new finishes and improving mechanical, electrical and lighting systems.

Within the Gilbert Hall Addition, the renovation of a large teaching laboratory significantly improved the safety of the space by providing upgraded mechanical systems, new vent hoods and improved lighting.
